Hello it has been 2 weeks since i last wrote my comment so i am going to explain what i have done since my last blog.
To begin with college is going very i finished my planning document and have began to make improvements on this to gain a higher mark. Also my band has done extremly well, we are thoughly prepared for our gig in 2 weeks just a few tweeks here and there but nothing drastic. In this weeks band practice i proved to myself that i do have the experiance and confidence in myself to motivate and help with others in the band as this week we were lacking in one member for the 4th week running. This is a skill i need to poses as an instrumental instructor to help motivate students to practice and want to learn.
Speaking of motivating, also my orchestra teaching is going swimmingly well. I have an understanding with the students and they are beginning to take my lessons seriously. However it has been a struggle to make them realise that i am there teacher as i am only 2 years older than them but i have to act professional with there attitude towards the situation. From this situation i have learned to act proffesional at all times and i feel this is a strong skill required as a instrumental instructor. Also i produced a lesson plan for the students , which included one to one sections of time with students. I have gained the skill of preparing lesson plan which can be used as evidence in my graded unit portfolio.
My piano teacher is possitive about my playing abilities and has continued to make me sight read peices so i can improve my abilities and be able to achive my goal of sight reading to grade 4 by march 2010. I know to become an instrumental instructor you need to be able to sight read accompaniments for students. I am fairly confident i will achive my goal in sight reading.
I have also begun to buy relivant books to practice with in my target of gainging garde 7 on my first instrument and put into practice of my extra 20 minutes of practice a night to develop my skills and improve to the aquired standard.
Finally this week i began my research into other instruments in my musical family which we improve my knowledge on these instruments. This will help with my graded unit because it can be used for evidence to prove that i have knowledge in other instruments in my family making me eligiable to teach them to a standard and also more employable.
Thanks for taking the time to read my blog.

I finally get my own class!!!!
Hello to all
welcome to another of this weeks blog.
This week i am mainly discussing my orchestra teaching in kirkcaldy. Of course i will speak about college and other relevent activities.
This week at my orchestra teaching i got to perform one to one tution with some students. It was an amazing experiance. I learned so much from the children. I began by warming up with them and afterwards i conducted a peice for them to play before beggining our usual rehersal. We worked through the exercises without any problem on there behalve but i have to admit i was a bit scared that the children may laugh at me as before i was just playing alone with them in band rehersals where as now i was there teacher for the evening. However i had to overcome my fear of confidence and just teach them what i had. I believe that it was a fantastic experiance.
Ontop of having to teach the children the original teacher was watching me like a hawk to see how i was doing. He always had a smile on his face so i just presumed that i was doing swimmingly well. When we went for a break i spoke to the teacher and asked how i did he said that i had a good job especialy under pressure. I was so happy and thrilled to hear him say this.
I learned a great deal that evening. It has helped me with my graded unit because i have learned to become more confident under pressure and being able to work under pressure are two skills needed to become an instrumental instructor. Its also helped me with my graded unit because i can use the materials used in the lesson to put as evidence in my port folio.
The best bit of it all was that i get to teach the children for 30 min every week from now on.
At work this week i was challenged by having to work with a new member of staff. At first she seamed a bit funny but as time grew and a few conversations later i was happily speaking to her. It taught me that first impressions werent always right and people deserve a chance. This relates to my graded unit because i need to learn to work with difficult students but give them a chance.
This week at college has been a quite short as i was off ill on wednesday but i pulled myself together for thursday.
The band is going strong, we are pretty much at performance standard just a few tweeks to adjust but the majority of it is there. Oh and we came up with a name........ Dylan peppers lonely hearts club band. What a shame on poor dylan. Also this week i finished my digital audio peice. I am becoming a bit more creative with myself which is always a good sign.
In this week piano lesson i had a short assessment which i passed very well. I need to be able to play piano to become a instrumental instuctor as i need to play accompaniments for students. which is a skill i am developing.
Finally i also finished a book on chopin this week is was very instresting to read about his life and the things that inspired is work. I belive this helps me with my graded unit because it gives me a fairer understanding of musical composers and styles of the times to have a diversity on my playing.
Thank you for reading

Geust speaker - Lorenz Cairns
Hello to fellow followers and others who may be reading, its time for another blog. This week i am going to be speaking about Lorenz cairns and the effect his words have had on me. Of course as normal i will speak about college and other activities which are helping my achive my graded unit, but to start of Lorenz cairns.
Lorenz Cairns is the head of the music department at perth college. He went through many diferent carrer choices to achive where he is today. Firstly lorenz can from a family background of music through his father. He played bass and loved singing. He went to alot of rehersals with his father where he would get the chance to play and one day he was offered an audition to the Royal acadamy of Music where he eventualy stayed for 1 year. After this he decided he wanted to play his bass more and ended up traveling the world for 5 years playing. Lorenz explained to us that he learnt so much as a session player, some of which are working under pressure, time keeping and consiistance. He then realised at 32 he didnt want to be a session player anymore and went on to become a west end singer. Lorenz had decided that he wanted to "be all that he could be" and learned how to do so through always thinking ahead. Where do you want to be? What do you want to do next? Lorenz eventualy toke the posistion he is currently in had has loved every minute of it. The feeling of motivating and teaching students is such a warm feeling to him. He belives that if you wish to be in education as a teacher you have to be prepared to be out of your comfort zone, accept and rise to challanges and most of all listen.
Lorenz has taught me that i dont know how far education will take me but if i can sustain my carrer i will go far. I beieve that i am an extremly good listener and i know i want to help grow childrens minds. I also belive that i can motivate children to learn new things and encourage them to study hard. Through all of this knowledge i believe i will become a very good teacher.
As lorenz said "you've got to want to be that step forward and then take that step forward"
This week i toke my first exam in piano which i passed very strongly but i know i am under way of being able to achive my goal of playing grade 3 music by the end of this year. I need to be able to play piano as a teacher and i need to play up to grade 5 standard for university. I feel i am on track for this achivement and will succed.
In college this week it was the same old really. i began to start more research into my presentaion on the beatles. It is quite tiresome but work has to be done. I also learned to manage my time better with studying and in practicing. Time keeping is an important atribute to become an instrumental instructor. It wasnt something i was strongly good at but i am improving dramaticly.
Well this is all i can say this week, Tune in next week to see what ive learned and achived.

so this weeks blogspot..... i cant think of a title
What a bad title to start this weeks blogspot but hey....
This week i started of by upgrading my current CV. I decided to put more information about my music abilities into it. My CV can be used in my portfolio in graded unit to show i can organize my self and that i am self motivated, which is two of the requirements of an intrumenal instructor.
Also this week i improved so much on my trombone. Gavin was so impressed with the practice i put in.............. lol. I developed my technique on my lip touning and my breathing. Im so proud of myself. I also began to have faith in myself because i was finding hard to practice and i felt it was affecting my playing and i began to feel i was letting my self and my college band down but i picked it up and brough myself back.
This weeks graded unit class was a one to one with the leacturer about our progress on our planning document. she was very pleased about what i had done but she suggested that i link the SWOT analysis to fit each colum. I toke what she had to say and i made the changes and continued on with my document. I am nearly finished but we have like one week left to finish it. (I better hurry)
College this week has been good. I am learning to communicate better with people and building my confidence as a performer and as a student of the college. I know that it is a requirement of the job description and it is something i need to improve alot in.
Sorry it such a short blog this week, Not much i can say anymore
catch ya next week.

Another blogspot week!!
Hi all its time for another blogspot, however i dont have much to say this week. A bit upsetting really but anyway.
College is great still cracking on with the beatles band, we should really get a name for our band but part from that all is fantastic in that. We had our theory exam, which i thought was gonna be quite hard but actualy it was fairly easier.(exept the clapping notation bit) Will find out results tomorrow, hopefully i passed. In this weeks graded unit we learnt how to speak about ourselfs, such as our strengths and weaknesses. This helped me very much with action plan , as i was extremley stuck on what to write. This week we also got a new band teacher called Micheal he is pretty cool. Not only will he compliment you but he advices you aswell. BRILL!!!.
Further to college i am gaing a high level in my piano and i am practicing more on my trombone aswell. Finding the time isnt always easy but i fit it in somewhere.
On tuesday evening i went back to my old windband in kirkcaldy and i met up with old teachers and they offered me to come every other tuesdat to help teach other students and play in their concerts. I toke the offer in a heartbeat as i am aware that my teaching skills are next to none and i feel this will encourage my enthusiasum to learn myself but also to gain experience in teaching students because i want to be a music teacher but also because it is a weakness i wish to improve. This will help my graded unit in such a way as i will have gained skills required for the job decription.
Nothing else i really have to say, im sorry, but life goes on.
Catch you next week.

Scottish arts council
So here i am again writting on my blog for another week. This weeks blog discusses the scottish arts council and the beginning of my action plan. It will also discuss revelant activities towards my graded unit.
Scottish arts council: In this weeks lesson a woman named Claire Hewett was our guest speaker. I found that her presentation did go on for quite a bit but there was an extrodenary amount of information gathered. To begin with she explain what the scottish arts council (SAC) were and how she was involved in the company. Her job as a music officer is to improve issues, organize section and the main activity is to asses funding aplications. She went on to explain how the music department of the company and what the requirements are for and application form, the funders, budgets and how each unique section of music has its own individual way of applying.
I find it very hard to explaing about Claire's talk as i am unsure on how to portray the information towards my graded unit. However i can say that the information i received from claire is useful for the future of mu graded unit. I can use the information in such a way of incorporating it into my thoughts and ideas for my action plan.
My action plan: This week i began the dreaded long nights, time and effort into my action plan. I feel that it is going ok but i finding quite frequently that i am repeating myself in sections and i can not speak alot about myself and my skills. My only way of overcoming this is to speak to my teaher about my worries and ask for help on how to speak about myself. This has helped my in my achivement of my graded unit because i feel that i am progressing forward with the action plan i am not leaving it all to the last minute. Learning to plan things out better is a skill i am developing better with progression in my graded unit.
Relevent Activities: This week i learned how to play the piano with two hands, whereas before i was just playing with one. It is slow but i am deffinatly getting there. Also i bought new theory books to work throught which i know will help me with my graded unit as i need to be able to understand theory as it is a requirement for the job. College has been the same this week, still learning about the beatles. To be honest i am finding it very hard theorecticly to stay focused but practicly its become a doddle. I know that i am going to have to get over this soon as i ahve no other choice but too. I cant change the course at college but i can change the way i do it.
Finally im off on holiday this week so catch you in about 2 weeks for the next blogspot.

Beginning of all the hard work.
A new week has started and once again i am writting on my blogspot. In this weeks blog i am disscussing the action plan, college week and my home life studying towards my graded unit.
Firstly, my action plan. This weeks graded unit class was the beginning of the hard work. We started of with a discussion of an action plan and how we would go about writting one. We discovered that our action plan was worth 30% of our final grade meaning that alot of writting and discussing is involved in the plan. Basicly you cant just write a sentence and expect to get an A or a B. We need to be able to write in full paragraphs in our action plan because the more you write the better marks you will recive. To conclude my action plan paragraph i know that the action in plan is vital to the achivement of my graded unit and that is the reason why i have saved the file onto my memory pen and will start to plan what i write carefuly. If i do it bit by bit every sort of to nights it will soon become full and worth a good grade. (hopefuly)
Secondly, my college week. This college week has been good but it has had its bad moments. To start of with band practice is going ok. Learning about the beatles and there style is very interesting but can sometimes be boring and i finnd myself begging to loose motivation towards the studying side of it. However i kept going and i began to pull through. All other classes are doing very well. I cant think of very much to say about it apart from its all running smoothly. I know that my time in college needs to be well spent because in the long run its all worth a HND in the end.
Finally, my home life studying. This week my piano teacher has bought me new books which i have to work through day by day and i should gradualy improve my skills on the piano. However i am finding it hard to work on it with everything else i have to do for college and outside life but im sure i will manage to fit it in as it is important for my carrer. The piano skills are needed for my carrer as well as my graded unit. My piano skills are linked back to my job discription in my graded unit because you need to be able to accompany and sight read peices of music.
To conclude this weeks blogspot i just want to say stay tuned for next weeks blog and find out how i started the work on my action plan.
Thanks
Zoe

Pete Honeymoon - Guest speaker
So as i walked through into the salon at the brahan building, i wandered what this weeks leason in graded unit would hold in store. We found out to much of my liking it was pete honeymoon, a music leaturer at the college. Pete was talkin about his experance as a session player and an instrumental instructor. Firstly he spoke about his experiance as a session player. He began by sayin that he was a bass player and lead on to speak about his part as a session player in the 80's doing mainly scottish tunes. He spoke about the requirements of a session player, some of which are: versitility of music, knowlege of your 1st instrument and also being able to stay calm and focus at all times. These are just some of the requirements and i feel that his knowlege of his session playing has made me want to practice more to gain better knowledge on my 1st instrument.
Pete then went on to talk about his experiances in intrumental teacher, which i fould highly inspiring and useful toward my graded unit. He bagan by saying that "no matter how good you are on your instrument there is always someone in a school who could be better than you, but the trick is to remain a teacher and give your experienced opinion on there peice of music. I.E that was good but this bit could be better". It is in some ways this has inspired me to become even more of a teacher because i feel that i could use my better judgement in difficult situations. Pete then went on to describe the requirements of a instrumental instructor, some of whicg are: patience, using your better judgement, high knowlege of other families in your instrument and also being flexiable with the schools. With this information in mind i believe that my graded unit will be helped somewhat. Such i have a higher knowledge of what is required and i feel that i understand what i have to do for my graded unit meaning i can make it alot better in the long run.
So that was our draded unit lesson for this week, with the homework of coming home and typing up on our blogspots.
I would like to also add that i have begun to take piano lessons. I choose to begin this because i know that i need to be able to sight read and play at a grade 5 standard to achive my goal. I stronly believe that my lessons will help me with my draded unit of becoming an intrumental instructor because you need to be able to sight read at a high standard in the job. I also feel that my lessons will help because i will have a better knowlege of music theory and help me with my grade 5 theory book.
I strongly feel that my grade 5 theory book will help with my graded unit because i need to have a firm understanding of theory to become and instrumental insrtuctor in the beggining.
Stay tunned for next weeks graded unit class when i shall tell you more about what i have learned and how it will help my graded unit portfolio, interview and also myself.

Guest speaker Fiona Mckenzie
Our last graded unit class had a guest speaker called Fiona Mckenzie. Fiona runs a theatre in kilmarnock and has had alot of experience in the jobs related to our graded unit critera. She was invited to speak to us about her life and experience in the jobs. Fiona has taught me alot about how to think about the job in which i am applying for in my graded unit.(instrumental instructor) Such ideas are about planning, being fimaliar with other instruments in the families, the ability to travel and be able to teach one to one. As i am aiming to be a musical teacher in a classroom or an intrumental instructor i found Fiona's information important not only in the aspect of my graded unit but also in my carrer choice. Fiona has help me with my reasearch and planning for my graded unit in such a way of looking for the requirements to be a teacher. I feel i have learned alot about fiona and also about becoming a teacher which will help me in the future and with my graded unit.

Graded unit 2
In the first lesson the group disscused the critera needed to pass graded unit 2. Following this we were divided into groups and told to disscus each job we could use to develo our portfolio's with. At the end of each job we came together as a whole and shared our idea's. I have choosen to develop my portfolio in the prospective of apply for a job as a instrumental insructor. With today's lesson in mind i belive that the disscusion has help me understand the aspects of the unit and has made me begin to prepare my action plan for my graded unit. This helps in the long run as i belive if you work a little each week you can progress through the unit stress free. I feel this lesson has also help me to gain knowlege about becoming a instrumental teacher and will eveidently help me with this unit.
