Finally graded unit is over.
The interview is finished, however one evaluation still remains. I should have that completed by next week. Apart from that my graded unit is over. yey. But college must still go on untill the 10th of june. Still a bit of work to do but i will get there.
Not got much to say but that will do for now.
Bye

So near to the end!!
Well it is may now and the pressure of college work is mounting up. Gradedd unit portfolio, adorno essay, session skills report, DAW and of course our composition band work. This is so stressful. This week i have manily been focusing on my graded unit portfolio and presentation. With every piece of evidence i put in the more i find i have to do for this folio. I cant belive how much work there is to do. HELP!!!!!!!! so i have tried to do it in a structured mannor of doing it subject by subject but find myself doing it like the easyiest bit first. However with only 1 week left till the interview it is mounting up fast.
Also this week i had my final concert of the year with the kirkcauldy youth windband. It was a great success. Many parents and friends showed up to support there children. It was a great experiance for me to teach these children and i loved every minute of it. I have been offered to come back next year which i have accepted so many more performances coming up next year.
This week has taught me how to work under pressure but still remain calm which i have to admit is very hard. However this is a good ability to have as an instrumental insructor as you may need to work under pressure during tearm time with accomniments or timetabling.
so that really all i can say about this week as i need to continue my graded unit portfolio.
Cheers

My weekly blog
Hello,
so another blog week. Firstly i would like to say there has been some family issues and i have been distracted from my work. However i had to continue with everything else.
To begin with i have the final concert for i the kirkcaldy youth wind band on friday. I am very excited to see my students perform. We have all put in many hours of hard work and effort for these concerts. It will be a thrill and a joy to watch the final outcome of all the hard work put towards the students. I have been informed that i would be offered a teaching place next year with the same year group. The only problem is that i cant teach next year as i have to move on to the next step of my own carrer.
At college we have been so stressed with the work load that we have and i feel like i cant cope with it but i have to in order to pass my HND. So firstly, we have a new band at college, it going really well. WE have a diversity of songs and to be honest i have never heard most of them in my life but i have persevered and they are turning out really well. We have a good band to. I have not worked with any of these students before apart from one so its a new experiance in itself. This is useful towards my graded unit as i have the experiance of playing with other students that i have not already.
Secondly I have learned so much in session skills about asession and how skilled you need to be to play. The sessions have been enjoyable but there was always problems with them. These problem have helped me to realize what skills i have developed towards my graded unit. Such skills as working to a deadline and being skilled in your playing abilities in such a way that you will be able to deal with difficult problems with ease.
Finaly, at home there is some family issues and to be honest it is a nightmare being a student when things like this happen. It is helping me to understand what it is like to organise myself better, as the quicker i get things done the better because i will not have to deal with issues. Being organised is a skill required to become an instrumental instructor as it is needed to deal with student lessons as well as homework.
Well that about all i can say this week. Speak soon.

A very long blog!!!!
so i should probably say its been a long time since i wrote on my blog, which is bad i know. However i am wrtting it all now.
So college to begin with. well we have just had a lovely 2 weeks off for easter and it was fabulous. However i have the remainder of a HND to complete and this is just one of the many many things i must complete to pass. Anyway college has been consistent in the past few weeks. The gig in glasgow was amazing. I could not have enjoyed it better. The audience were enjoying our performance so much which made me get really into performing. I feel we had just worked so hard for the gig and we played our best on the night. I have found a new confidence in myself which will be useful towards my graded unit as i can use this confidence in teaching and speaking to studentd calmly and proffesionaly. Further more college leacturs gave us a rundown of what we need to do to pass this year and it is going to be jam packed full, however i feel this will be a test of our motivation and organisational skill which is also a skill required as an instrumental instuctor.
In my work for the past while i have had to work under new supervision as our boss has taken ill but is on the mend. However i found it hard to deal with the new manager and it caused a lot of tension in the shop, i feel this was because the new manager works so differently from our boss and i was finding it hard to deal with the change. I soon came to realize that i would have to get used to the new way in the shop otherwise i would be out of a job and so i did. This has been a possitive step for me as i feel i am a better person. It has also been a learning curve as well. This experiance is useful towards my graded unit because as an instrumental instuctor you need to adapt quickly to unforseen curcimstances and i feel that in time i will be able to handle this skill.
As for my teaching, it is going very very well. we are just about to have our last performance "lets go musical". I feel i have gained alot of musical experiance as well as teaching experiance from working in kirkcaldy and i hope to maintain the knowledge i have gained until next year. I have also began to teach or more so help my sister and her friends with there theory in music for standard grade. Although its not anything drastic in teaching but every experiance counts and it we be helpful in my portfolio for graded unit as i can show i have experiance in teaching.
So that is about all i can say for this while but i will be keeping a weekly routine now.
Speak soon.

I learn scary stuff!!!
This week in graded unit all the students were planning there folio around session musician had to have a mock interveiw. The rest of the students had to watch and write down notes on how they could improve and what they did good. I feel that this is a learning structure to my graded unit as i need to attend an interview. Next week all the instrumental instructors in the class have to have there mock interview and that includes me. I have put a lot of effort into it and i hope i can achive my very best in it.
Also this week i attended my old high school where i got to sit in some students practice time with there instructors. I found they experiance alarming as i now have an even better understanding what it is like to be an instrumental instructor. In this experiance i got a chance to met up with old teachers and put what teaching skills i have to some students who are learning. I feel the experiance has made me even more aware of what i need to do to become and instrumental instructor and has helped me towards my graded unit as i have more experiance in teaching. Furthermore i was able to speak to all instrumental instructors and music teachers about there experiance in the business and how i could improve to achive my goals.
This now brings me onto my orchestra training. I have only 6 weeks of training left with the orchestra and it is very hard to think i will have to leave, but on a stronger note it will give me more time to get on with my college work. We are currently preparing for our last performance of this year "Lets go Musical" which has proven to be a big hit with the students. I feel that my experiance of teaching has improved dramaticly sinced i started there and i wish to attend next year if if at all possible. However i have enjoyed working there and i will be sad at our last performance.
At college this week we finally got a recording down in session skills. I find this class to be quite stressful as communication between engineers and musicans can be limited. But on the hall it is enjoyable and i hope to learn new skills from it.
Thats really it for this week. Cheak out next weeks blog to find out how my mock interview went.
Thanks

I need to pull my finger out!!
Hello all
This week has been so slow for me and i have found it hard to get motivation to do anything related to college. Not good. Howvever i did manage to do some band work and after that the motivation started to roll in. This has taught me the desired skill of self motivation. With this skill i can use it towards my graged unit in such ways of actualy completing my graded unit.
Also i learned how to achive good interview skills and was asked to prepare for a mock interview next week. With this in mind i began researching and realised there is alot involved in have good interview skills. So as i joted them down onto paper to start practicing i couldn't help but realise that this would be useful towards my graded unit application as a instrumental instructor. This is because if i have good interveiw skills i have a higher chance of getting the job and they are also skills i will need in the job. Furthermore these skills will also help me in any carrer path i may chose.
At my tuesday night teaching my class decided to play up on my and be foolish towards learning and i had to have such a calm head and clear but firm voice in telling them there wrong doing. I also decided for the next time i would set up a new lesson structure to make it more enjoyable for them as i think it was not as fun for them anymore. This taught me to stay calm in difficult situations and to act proffesinaly as a teacher to them at all times. This is important to my graded unit as it proves i have patience in dealing with children.
Also during the remainder of last week i read up on the final of other instruments in my musical family and wrote a short paragraph on each, and placed them in my graded unit folder. This will be used as evidence in proving i know a bit about other instruments in my family and give me a higher chance of becoming an instrumental instructor.
Will catch you all next week.

semester 2
Hello all.
Well semester 2 and the beginning of the hard work. New classes have started and old ones finished but the show must go on.
In this blog i am going to speak about learning, developing and teaching skills.
Firstly, college this week has been busy as the new semester kicks in. Two new classes have started and one finishes it must been a new sesmester.
Secondly this week in kirkcaldy i was teaching my class a new peice in 7/8. About 10 minutes into the class i came to discover that some students were struggling with the rhythm of the piece so i had to quickly decide what to do with the other students so i could help the ones who were stuggling. This process has helped me to learn how to think on my own two feet and fast. This has helped me towards my graded unit because it has helped me too think on my own to feet something which a teacher has to require. Also i developed my communication skills when i was at work this week. This was due to a phone call conversation i had with the area manager about situations in the shop. I managed to hold my tounge and a calm head when dealing with personal issues. This is useful towards my graded unit because i need to be able to speak calmly and proffesinaly towards students and staff. Furthermore, a new skill i have learned about is teaching in different enviroments. I have begun to teach a few students a week about music theory such as the basics. It is a new experiance and i em enjoying the practice myself. This will prove useful in my graded unit as i have know theory on my own instruments as well as other in my family. I have also began to research other instruments and realised that they are much similar but i will continue to investigate to gain knowledge required for the job.
That is all for this week.
Thanks
